People often start googling terms such as “get money now” and “get money quick”, and read our many suggestions for often fun ways to make quick cash.
However, one thing a lot of people aren’t fully aware of is that there are lots of hardship grants available when times are hard. It is a priority to round these up for our readers and help you get on your feet again, particularly with increased living costs meaning we are all feeling the strain. So keep reading to find out about what hardship grants are available in April 2022.
Nationwide
Friends of the Elderly
Friends of the Elderly provides grants to older people living in England and Wales who are on low incomes. They have 3 types of grants available: Home essentials, digital connection, and financial support. You can apply for a grant if you are of state retirement age, live in England or Wales, you live on a low income with less than £4000 in savings and you are not living in a residential care home. Applications need to be made through a referring agency such as citizens advice or local care teams.
Jordison and Hossell Animal Welfare Charity
The charity provides one off-grants of no more than £250 for pet owners who are on no income and are on some form of benefits or pension. Grants are for pet owners of small animals who cannot pay bills. The pets vet can apply on the individual’s behalf via email or letter:

Wood Green The Animals Charity
Wood Green provides animal welfare services such as financial support for neutering, free behaviour advice and financial support towards vets’ bills among other things. To enquire about whether you are eligible follow this link.

The Harpur Trust
The Harpur Trust runs an Adult Education Scheme to improve the financial situation and quality of life of those on a low income. Applicants must be permanent residents in Bedford, on a low income and planning to return to work or have a career change after having been out of education for 5 years. The Mary Elizabeth Siebel Charity
The Mary Elizabeth Siebel Charity provides help to people over the age of 60 who are ill and live within 12 miles of Newark Town Hall. Individuals can apply directly but applications must be supported by a third party, such as a doctor. Write to the charity to obtain an application form.

Metcalfe Smith Trust
The Metcalf Smith Trust gives grants to individuals who are affected by mental or physical disability or long-term illness. Grants of between £250 and £2500 are given to applicants in the Leeds area. Grants can be made for convalescent/respite care, purchasing necessary equipment and household items or meeting costs that living with disabilities incur. You can apply through the website here but you must include a supporting letter from a charity, voluntary organisation, school or professional i.e., GP or Social worker.
The Chapel Allerton and Potternewton Relief-in-Need Charity
The Chapel Allerton and Potternewton Relief-in-Need Charity provide one-off grants for the benefit of people who live within the parish boundaries of Chapel Allerton, Chapeltown and Potternewton, Leeds. Grants are given to the value of £200, they can also provide some white goods to the same value. Individuals cannot apply directly but applications can be made through Chapeltown Citizens Advice, a social services department or other caring agencies on behalf of individuals.
