Human rights violations in mental health care – the court proceedings continue

From Mad in Norway: The State, at the Ministry of Health and Care, is being sued for repeated human rights violations in the form of forced medication, isolation and belting during mental health care admissions. After the case was up for consideration on 8 February 2024, the Supreme Court concluded that it has been incompletely processed, and the negotiations therefore continue on Thursday 11 April .

The question being addressed is “Forced use during compulsory mental health care. Whether the right to demand a verdict for a breach of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) has lapsed because a long time has passed”, and the case is conducted behind closed doors.

The case was first heard in June 2022 in Oslo District Court.
