From Mad in Italy: “My family has not been exempt from serious mistakes due to cultural legacies as well. Mine were from 1924 and they had some ambivalences towards me. Between them they did not respect each other, it was evident, but they still made me ‘self-employed’ quickly.

At one point, they told me clearly that I could leave home, indeed that I had to for the work talk and why I ‘drot them crazy’ (example of the ambivalence to which I was referring).

My mother, in truth, often told me that it was not so important for me to learn household chores, but that it was more important for me to read, she e.g. remembered all the poems she read by heart.”
