Vitamin R (Leading Us Along) – Chevelle

This week’s Song of the Week was recommended by MIA Reader Christopher Dubey:”This 2004 song by Chevelle is about a friend of lead vocalist Pete Loeffler, who he said abused Ritalin and became mentally disturbed as a result. The video depicts Pete as an office worker in a fantastical, angst-ridden, drug-induced haze. I first watched it when I was a young college student, and I didn’t fully understand the significance. Now after having lived through severe iatrogenic harm from psychiatric drugs I started in college, it makes total sense. I never took ADHD stimulants, but the experience described echoes those I’ve heard from other people who were harmed by them.”
